Since 2007, Drynet has been an active voice in the processes of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). We advocate for the recognition of local organisations and communities as central actors in the fight against land degradation. Their knowledge, lived experience, and innovative practices are essential to shaping lasting and effective solutions.
Drynet members contribute directly to UNCCD processes by participating in the Conference of the Parties (COP) and the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC) and host events to commemorate Desertification and Drought Day (June 17).

Drynet was instrumental in the establishment of the UNCCD Civil Society Organisations (CSO) Panel, established by the COP in 2009 to ensure meaningful CSO participation and in UNCCD processes. Since then Drynet members have played a crucial role as regional representatives on the Panel and as elected Observers to the Science Policy Interface.
The CSO Panel is made up of five members. Three of the current five members are Drynet members:

The UNCCD Science-Policy Interface (SPI) is comprised of 35 experts working to ensure the delivery of policy-relevant information, knowledge and advice to support the implementation of the Convention. Drynet member Manon Albagnac from CARI in France is the CSO representative of the current SPI Observers.

The IWG on the Future Strategic Framework (FSF) is a 20-member group established in 2024 to identify key elements for a post-2030 strategic framework of the Convention and conduct a thorough analysis of the indicators in the current strategic framework. Drynet member Emmanuel Seck from ENDA in Senegal is the current CSO representative on the IWG-FSF.
