CS4LDN Project: Drynet’s Partnership Project to enhance the Role of Civil Society in achieving LDN

The Strengthening Civil Society Role in Achieving Land Degradation Neutrality (CS4LDN) project creates opportunities for the empowerment of civil society organisations (CSOs) across the globe to influence LDN policy and mobilise funding for locally-led solutions.

The Global Environment Facility (GEF)-funded initiative is led by Drynet, Both ENDS, and the IUCN, with a $2 million investment over three years. The project is carried out in close partnership with the UNCCD CSO Panel, and the UNCCD Secretariat.

Through CS4LDN, civil society organisations will have enhanced opportunities to influence LDN policy and practice – linking community-driven initiatives with international decision-making. The project has two focus areas:

  1. Influencing LDN: CSOs have improved access to opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills to advocate for inclusive LDN policies, raise the visibility of community-driven restoration efforts, and shape decision-making at national and global levels, including UNCCD consultative and decision-processes such as CRIC and COP.
  2. Leveraging LDN: CSOs gain greater access to funding by strengthening fundraising skills and building connections with donors, including an LDN Donor Roundtable to unlock support for community-based initiatives.

CS4LDN follows a collaborative, cross-learning approach. Webinars, mentorships and workshops are designed to strengthen CSO capacities, while knowledge is shared through an online platform, newsletters and storytelling. A strong focus is placed on amplifying voices from youth- and women-led initiatives.

Drynet is a vibrant global network of 26 civil society organisations united by one vision: healthy drylands, thriving communities, and resilient ecosystems. Drynet members are directly involved in planning and organising the project activities. In an era where land degradation threatens climate stability, food systems, and biodiversity, this initiative ensures that local voices are not only heard but also shape the solutions.
