United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification
This introductory webinar provided participants with a comprehensive overview of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), its mandate and its importance in addressing land degradation, biodiversity loss and climate challenges. The session explored the Convention’s governance structure, key processes and decision-making bodies, while highlighting its connection to Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) and national implementation efforts. Participants learned how global commitments under the UNCCD are translated into national policies, programmes and targets, and gained insights into the role of civil society organisations in supporting implementation and advocacy. Through presentations from experienced practitioners and civil society representatives, the webinar examined opportunities for engagement at both national and international levels, equipping participants with a clearer understanding of how they can contribute to UNCCD processes, influence policy discussions and strengthen action towards sustainable land management and restoration.
