UNCCD in Practice
This webinar explored the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in practice, examining the key issues shaping current negotiations and their significance for land restoration, biodiversity, climate resilience and sustainable development. Participants gained an understanding of the Convention’s history, mandate and global relevance, while exploring priority topics under discussion ahead of COP17, including agricultural lands, land tenure, gender, drought and the future strategic framework of the Convention. Through expert presentations and moderated dialogue, the session highlighted what is at stake in ongoing negotiations and how decisions taken at the global level can influence national and local action. The webinar also examined the important role of civil society organisations in contributing to policy discussions, supporting implementation and helping translate UNCCD commitments into meaningful action on the ground.
