WEB CAMPAIGN: #NOSVIESUNETERRE (We live on one planet!)
This campaign aims to show the general public and authorities that people are not indifferent the issue of land degradation. Signing this petition at https://www.nosviesuneterre.org/ will help get this message across.
On the occasion of the World Day to Combat Desertification 2018, celebrated each year on June 17, the French based Desertification Working Group GTD launched this website to raise awareness of desertification issues and to champion the cause of people living in drylands. It aims to raise awareness and inform people about the process of desertification, its causes, its consequences and the ways to fight against land degradation.
“EVERYONE MUST BE ALLOWED TO LIVE WITH DIGNITY ON THEIR OWN LAND”!
This is the warning cry of the members of the GTD: Desertification and land degradation affect 1/3 of the world’s arable land, 110 countries and threatens food security and the lives of 2 billion people. This process, caused largely by human activities and accelerated by climate change, is fortunately reversible, thanks to good agricultural practices such as agroecology and agroforestry. Ensuring the sustainable development of our habitat, our energy, of our ways of life is vital.
Everyone must have the right to live with dignity on their land and be able to participate in the mobilization of civil society so that the issue of degraded lands returns to the centre of international concerns. Please share this web campaign with your friends, family, colleagues, relatives. Every voice counts.
WHAT IS THE WORKING GROUP On DESERTIFICATION? (GTD)
The Desertification Working Group is a French network of international solidarity players involved in combating desertification and land degradation in developing countries. It brings together NGOs, scientists, private organizations and local communities. Together, these members want to mobilize public opinion, strengthen dialogue and the actions of development practitioners, whilst influencing decision-makers.
